چکیده

The close X-ray selected BL Lac PKS 2155–304 has been observed using the University of Durham Mark 6 very high energy (VHE) gamma ray telescope during 1996 September/October/November and 1997 October/November. VHE gamma rays with energy > 300 GeV were detected from this object with a time-averaged integral flux of (4.2 ± 0.7 stat ± 2.0 sys) × 10 −11 cm −2 s −1. There is evidence for VHE gamma ray emission during our observations in 1996 September and 1997 October/November, with the strongest emission being detected in 1997 November, when the object was producing the largest flux ever recorded in high-energy X-rays and was detected in > 100 MeV gamma-rays. The VHE and X-ray fluxes show evidence of a correlation.

In the recent years, the new generation of Imaging Atmospheric Čerenkov Telescopes successfully detected very high energy (VHE; E > 100 GeV) γ-ray emission from a growing number of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs), mainly belonging to the blazar class. Among these recent results, we will mainly focus in this work on two recent discoveries made with the H.E.S.S. experiment: the tremendously active ...

Proposed search method for gravitational waves from PKS 2155-304 and other blazar flares

We motivate searches for gravitational waves from transient blazar flares with emphasis on PKS 2155-304. PKS 2155-304 is a blazar with redshift approximately equal to 0.12. On July 28 2006, the H.E.S.S. atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes detected an outburst of TeV gamma rays from this object lasting approximately two hours with total isotropic equivalent energy released in TeV gamma rays (withou...

Synchrotron - Self Compton Spectral Evolution of PKS 2155 - 304

The high frequency peaked blazar PKS 2155-304 is one of the brightest and most intensively studied prototype of BL Lac objects. Gamma-rays from PKS 2155-304 have been detected from the MeV to TeV ranges. We computed a synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) model, based on the temporal behavior of the particles distribution, responsible for the high-energy emission. Using the available simultaneous mult...

Intrinsic Constraints on Very High Energy Emission in Gamma-ray Loud Blazars

Photons with very high energy up to TeV (VHE) emitted from active galactic nuclei (AGNs) provide some invaluable information of the origin of γ-ray emission. Although 66 blazars have been detected by EGRET, only three low redshift X-ray selected BL Lacs (Mrk 421, Mrk 501, and 1ES 2344+514) are conclusive TeV emitters (PKS 2155-304 is a potential TeV emitter) since VHE photons may be absorbed by...
